In Other News:
As a kid I grew up seeing signs on roofs of barns all over the south that said:
See Rock City
Well, I managed to do just that in between my two workshops in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was amazing and awe inspiring and all good ’til I hit Fat Man’s Misery which led into a cave filled with carved gnomes that were it up with black lights. I think it may be where the “It’s a Small World” theme at Disney Land got it’s inspiration from…..Gnomes and Black Lights. In a Cave. And they (the gnomes) had been hand carved. By an artist. Over a period of six years.
Did I mention the gnomes were in a CAVE????
Six years of gnome carving in a cave.
Yeah, just let that one settle on your mind….
Okay, I have gotten totally off topic here but there was a reason that I was there. Not in the gnome cave, but in Chattanooga, Tennessee home of Rock City and Lookout Mountain and Mt. Vernon (one of the best southern food restaurants around anywhere and known for its amaretto pie!!)
It was to teach a workshop.
That did not involve gnomes or black lights.
And most importantly….was not HELD IN A CAVE!
Here are the non-gnome, non cave dwelling artists!
Charlsie, Kay, Maddin, Carol, Julia, Crystal, Julie, Diana, Nancy, Kay, Sharon, Ginny, Rena, Nancy, Valee, Mignonne, June and my host for this workshop, artist Lisa Seago!
This was one lively bunch of artists. One lived on Monkey Island and another had her lip bitten by Elvis.
Obviously, they will let anyone into a workshop these days….
Artists may be a lot of things but one thing they are never is boring :))
Just have a look at all the beauty they spun in a few days of painting!
I love that I get to meet so many funny, talented, and warm people that share a love for beauty, color and painting…(and equally thrilled that none of this took place in a cave.)
Workshop II in Chattanooga in my next post and after that…..ITALY!!!!!!!
