"Sneak Peak!"

“Connected” — Painting from upcoming solo show
Well, I never intended to go so many days without posting, but in my defense (and lord knows I need one) I have been completing the paintings for my upcoming show that will open one month from today (February 4th) at Gallery B in Lexington, KY. And working on the book that will go with them. Yep, I did say book—a little self-published book for this body of work via blurb.com.
This has been a heck of a ride so far. 24 new paintings. And a whole new idea. It’s no secret I love to write. And I love to paint. I made a concerted effort this past year to focus on love and joy. It was time well spent…:)
So……..what I have done is combine all of those things into one. Each of the paintings done for
this show have scripted in them, both underneath and mingled in on top, words like joy, hope, love, and peace. Some of the larger works contain on the canvas, below layers of gorgeous color (I’m sorry, I am a color addict and I can’t use the word color without an adjective like lush, gorgeous, vibrant, soul-stirring…it’s not ’cause I did it….it’s just the nature of color that calls for it), now, back to what I was saying, some of the larger works contain on the canvas more in depth writings (which were photographed in progress and will be shown in the book).
My intention for these paintings is that they would serve to remind us of the things that matter the most in life. Things that are often hidden under the “layers” of living. If you click on the painting shown in this post, you will see some of the words I am speaking of, intertwined into the painting.
The name for the show is “Let There Be Love….” and it has helped me stay focused on what is important in life. This body of work has been a gift for me. I think the biggest lesson learned thus far, is to trust in the process of life. Each painting has its own time to be born. It has helped me to not rush past the moments of doing it, trying to get to the next thing on my list. I look forward to sharing these paintings with all of you.
Now, whatever happens from this group of paintings or the book, I want you to know how I have gotten to this point from where I was a year ago. Because it is so simple. And because it matters that you are living to your highest and personal best. It boils down to one simple thing. I just decided to start saying “Yes” to life. Yes to possibility. Yes to believing my life mattered and had purpose.
It’s a new year. A new decade for that matter. Think about what promise your life has, what is your stuff to do, your song to sing, your words to write.
say yes…..:)
Give yourself a New Year’s Hug from me to you!

what a wonderful idea for a show. Words and art go so well together. I wish I could come to Kentucky to see it. I agree about trying to do one’s personal best. When we do what we believe in, thats when things will happen. Looking forward to sharing a wonderful 2010 in blogland with all the great artbloggers out there.ReplyCancel
