During the Creative Process
Oh Happy Day
I’m in Paris…Kentucky.
Leaving for France in less than 3 weeks.
And here I am painting Italy.
No one said I was normal 🙂
Seriously—I’ve been strolling the sunflower fields and eating handmade pasta—in my mind of course.
And picking grapes in Tuscany 🙂 (I have another Tuscany painting on the way)
And writing and sleeping out under the stars and playing in watercolor and getting all excited about our upcoming time in France (you know I am planning some fun things for you!).
Something New: Here’s a little audio answer to a question I get asked on occasion 🙂 Something to think about for your own creative self.
Your thoughts and words are like a soothing balm for my creative heart and spirit, Dreama.
Thank you for the gently powerful reminder of what it is I ‘get’ out of creating, and then allowing those creations to go out into the world on their own journeys. After coming back from my quiet reflective time in the back yard this morning, listening and then writing and then doing a bit of sketching, I can’t wait to finish breakfast (and the dishes will have to wait) so I can get back to my little creative corner of the house and begin another creative journey today.

So Good to hear your voice Dreama and get your thoughts on letting paintings go. I do think some are harder to let go than others but…love what you said about if we are “present” in that moment and to me– engaged in the painting process…With a vision of what we are trying to say–then it is meant to be for the painting to go out and give joy to someone else. I have almost all of my paintings in my family our were given to dear friends; the rest are here at home. I have felt that my paintings were a look into myself in a very private way. I have not been able to sell my. The few paintings I have sold I have wished were back with me.

Well said, Dreama! I’m sure there are a lot of artists out there who feel the same, but it’s like you reached right into my heart and mind and said exactly what I feel when I’m creating art, and sending it out into the world. Joy, joy, joy. Have a great time on your trip, with just the right amount of safe & just the right amount of wonderful. Give us more to see!

What a treasure you are. I know how inspiring France can be, but Fairhope, AL, has it’s own charm….and way too many flowers…You help me to appreciate where I live.

Being at the easel, painting without thoughts infringing, is allowing that creative muse to come through. You said it so much better and I appreciate the reminder to remember who I am when I step into my studio or stand beside my plein air easel in the great outdoors. Thanks Dreama.
