I see you delaying your joy. Doing the ‘should’ stuff

If you read my last letter, just skip to the Love Letter below! If not, keep reading to know why you’re getting a love letter from me.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you won’t be surprised to know that I share things from my writing journals. Often times things that I’ve written to myself end up being something that reveals some truths. And truth is universal, so I end up sharing them with you.

That’s why I am sending you love letters! If you’re just now reading these, please know the others are on the site:

Love Letter 1

Love Letter 2

Love Letter 3

Love Letter 4

Love Letter 5

These are lifted from the letters I wrote to myself back in 2019. I had little to no objectivity on them at the time. They were just something I felt like doing, so I did.

I came across them today while sorting things in my office. As often happens when supposedly working, I ended up flopping in a chair reading.

And I found myself stirred by the letters and felt that they weren’t just written for me.

Love Letter 6

Dear one, let yourself read whatever you are excited to read. Let yourself do whatever you are excited to do. I see you delaying your joy. Doing the non-exciting—the ‘should’ stuff—often.

Watch a worthless movie.
Read a romance.
Sketch with abandon.
Walk, run, bike for the kid in you.
Dance because you can
Sing because it feels good
Say what you feel
More importantly
Feel what you say
Dream a big vision for yourself
Be open
Let love guide you

I want to have fun, I want to shine like the sun. I want to be the one that you want to see. I want to knit you a sweater. I want to write you a love letter. I want to make you feel better. I want to make you feel free.

P.S. Risky business. This thing of writing and sending it out. If I let fear stop me, you have no idea how many missives of mine would have never seen the light of day. I don’t get it right always—maybe only a very small percentage of the time. But I believe in following my heart which often seems to involve…taking chances. That is life. If this letter resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you—you can leave a comment just below.

P.P.S. You may be feeling inspired to do this for yourself. You know, get quiet and write a letter to YOU. It’s your higher self speaking to your regular old self. It knows so much more and finds it very easy to fall in love with …YOU!

    Dear Dreama,
Did you write this precious love letter just to me? I’ve been a member of Flow and before that, but over the last 6 years and following a devastating divorce, we have worked on a total rehab/remodel of a large home I bought on the Missouri River in Montana. In retrospect, it was probably a mistake, as it’s taken too much of me! I do lots of the low skill work myself, but we are at the final phase, and I can see the progress.

I have also been blessed with 5 more grandkids for a total of 7 in those years. I don’t see enough of them because of this house. Flow and your love letters and the wonderful artists in the group remind me to paint at least once in awhile and hang onto that dream. You are my art lifeline in a way. Bless you!

I’ve been a flow member for years with a few breaks. Currently on one of those breaks. I think what I enjoyed most has always been your writings. They speak right to my heart at that moment. Thank you.

Thank you. I’ve been struggling for a while now. There has been so much stuff to go through and I have a small home. I’ve inherited all my Mom’s photos as well as some of my aunts photos. I’ve even hired some people to help me occasionally.

Then there is the drama of a world gone mad which is dragging some of my family with it.

I wonder at the end of the day why I haven’t written anything or created anything and I feel sad. I should begin my journaling with some love letters. Thank you for reminding me and for sharing.

This is perfectly timed and a terrific reminder! xoxoxo
