“Cartolina #8”

The gelato high has cleared a bit, Eddie is on a one way ticket back to the states (courtesy the Italian government) and I am feeling almost local these days;))
Cartolina #8
Up the Hill in Panzano
If only I could figure out how these savvy Italian gals manage to ride their bicycles in heels— life would be practically perfect 😉
In my last post I suggested you get your name in the hat for the possible  drawing of  3 of the original watercolor postcards and then promptly provided you with a link —that didn’t work!  Crikey—let’s just blame that on Eddie!!
In order to make amends, I think the only right thing to do is to draw for one cartolina on this post and then do the grand finale for the other two next time.
Fair is fair:))
And to sweeten the pot even more, I am gonna throw in a little something I picked up while in Florence…..and no, I am not referring to either Eddie OR the extra 5 pounds that seems to have found a new home on my hips;))
Obviously, I  am going to have to start behaving more local…
eat my fresh fruits and veggies
get in some exercise riding the horses….
and hang some laundry.
Maybe then I can have some more of Mama’s amazing cheesecake at the Trattoria Pandemonio;)
The photo here is of the equally amazing mousse.
Someone ate the cheesecake before I could get my camera in focus…..(when you said you liked cheesecake I didn’t realize how serious of a “like” it was….)
Eddie says  if no one sees you eat it,  then the calories don’t count.
Of course this is the same cat who advised me to get a fanny pack for Italy, saying all the “smart dressed” women were wearing them.

Thanks Eddie.

So 1 winner, and 3 more chances to win (2 cartolinas and 1 surprise gift from Florence:)))
And after that…. oil paintings of Italy,  answers to some of the questions you have posed
 and more:))
Want your name in the hat one more time for the love of all things Italian??

And no matter how it falls, consider yourself a winner.
I don’t take just anybody to Italy —
they must be funny, interesting and willing to not let me eat alone—

you were awesome on all three:))))

And now for the winner of Cartolina #8…
Roseanne Campagna!!

Bellissimo!!!  Get your mailing address to me Roseanne–your cartolina awaits:)))!

What is there about laundry hanging in a foreign country that seems so much more beautiful than when it is hanging in the States? Great photo! I really liked the fruit stand photo too. I love your photos and narrative and can’t wait to see and read them each day.

  8. eclairre

Ah so pretty! I would love to win. thanks a ton. eclairre(at)ymail(dot)com

You’ve certainly saved the best for last… I’d like some lamp fittings like those for my garden! And that sunlit, pinky building… bliss! Thanks for sharing! And safe journeys home!

  16. oh dear not the last one…darn…I gave it my best shot..for a beautiful cartolina

  17. I’ve been off the net for a couple of days and miserable I was probably missing the draw for the post card. I was checking emails and only some websites worked … this didn’t include hotmail, DPW, Facebook or Ebay of suddendly POP! everything went black and then course. I’ve been running around frantically for 2 days trying to get it fixed and getting astrnomical quotes. Turns out all I had to do was disconnect the modem and reconnect it 10 mins later! Grrrrrrr! Hope I haven’t missed out. Have a great trip home Dreama.

  18. Eddie was right (for once) –about if no one sees you eating there are no calories!

  19. It’s been an awesome trip, Dreama! Now I’m off to practice riding my bicycle wearing my peep toe wedges : D

  20. Anonymous

Your paintings and your sense of humor just make me smile! Thank you, Debbi

  21. Anonymous

Okay, trip is coming to an end; how quick can the next one begin???? Xena is insisting that I make sure to send best wishes to Eddie, what is one to do, sigh. Your Cartolina would be lovely framed on my wall (that’s a Texas size hint) Happy travels – enjoy that mousse :))
Karen in the heart of Texas

  22. Maggie

Would be wonderful to receive one of the remaining cartolinas especially since this is my birthday! Love the way you capture the essence of Italy with your watercolor/pen paintings.

  23. Maggie

Today is my birthday. A cartolina from Dreama would be a lovely way to celebrate. I also received a bag of Baker’s Chocolates (Omaha). Now to sit back, eat the blue ones, and dreama of Italy. Thanks.

  24. Two cartolina’s left….I really only need one!

  25. Love your watercolors! Would you be offering any workshops?

  26. Love your watercolors! Would you be offering any workshops?

  27. Wonderful photos, stories and descriptions. I love “being there” with you.

  28. Unknown

Maybe Ron can add Gelato to the menu, if he hasn’t already. I volunteer to come as an independent taster till we get it just right. Poor Eddie, he thought incognito travel was best, probably trying to escape Eddie Pierre’s teen antics. Can’t wish you more fun than you are already having. So all I need is to get picked for a cartolina.

  29. Andrene Schmelzer

I hope this goes through. I have had problems a couple of times. Enjoying your photos. Have a safe trip back.

  30. I have a really bad case of envy Italian style. You’re doing what I dream of.

  31. Love the postcards and inspiration.

  32. Anonymous

I love following your blog and all your travels, and I follow you from sunny South Africa, So you get around in every way! Your paintings are always so colorful and happy. Oh, and my two cats love to follow Eddies adventures too!

  33. Cheesecake: YES. Bicycling in heels… not so much…. although the Espadrilles are surely better than Blaniks!

  34. Leave me some tiramasu . .well maybe I can’t spell it, but I sure can eat it! A trip to Italy is worth it just for that. And the olive oil, and the scooters, and the bread, and the . . .well, just about everything.

  35. Boy, coming home is going to be traumatic! I know you love Paris (KY), but all that gelato…and all that good wine…and all that amazing beauty…. I don’t know..I’d be pretty pressed to have to stay!! Or, I could get excited about going with you next year!! Yep, that’s the better choice! Travel safely my friend.

  36. Linda Stratton

Love IT! Love Italia! Safe travels. Ciao…

  37. Another gorgeous postcard in the galmorous life of Dreama Tolle Perry! Please save one for me! Hope you make it home safely!

Sure have been enjoying all your adventures and comments. Since I lost my 19yr old calico at the beginning of the summer, I really am enjoying all of Eddie’s adventures, too! Someday, when I come to visit my family in Lexington, I would love to visit the gallery where your precious talent hangs.
    Jana Rooke

    Bobbie Ward

  42. Dreama! Cheesecake or fruit…or Eddie – You choose! I’ll take any or all on a carotline!

  43. Hi…Sometimes only the good cats are the sleeping ones, and then that is questionable.
    Joni Leaf

  44. I still can’t believe you find time to share with all of us from Italy…I would be the same way…too fun to not share with fellow artists who can soak up each photo. And the paintings…each one is better than the next! I keep hoping…maybe…would love a watercolor. But know that each post has brightened my day and I have loved seeing Italy through you…thank you for that:)

  45. pat

It is such fun to travel with you. Great pictures and paintings! Pat Langley

  46. June

This has been such an exciting, fun and yes – delicious – journey you’ve taken us all on. Thanks so much for letting us live the Italian dream holiday with you. All your cartlinas are beautiful – congrats to all the lucky winners so far, and most recently Roseanne. As well as your cartolinas, thanks for being so generous with your time, greeting us every day with beautiful photos of ITaly – and that includes beautiful photos of all that beautiful food.

As there’s only a few more days till you fly back home, make sure you get to try any gelatos that you missed these past 8 days. And of course, more wine and cheesecake and spinach and ricotta tarts…and yes, all those beautfiul, healthy, fresh fruits and veggies.

Enjoy each and every moment of your remaining time there.

  47. Debra Pruskowski

Loving the Cartolinas and all of your trip details and photos. Still crossing my fingers!!
    Tomorrow is another day!!

I am gaining the lbs. just reading about your trip and looking at all those fantastic photos. But we all understand you need to keep up your strength so you can CREATE. I have given up on Eddy and have just crossed my fingers and toes (no easy feet on the toes) and hope my name flies out of the hat. Have fun.

  52. Sharon

Che Bella! I love all things Italian….yes, even cats (all of Eddies cousins must live in the colliseum!) but especially Fierenze…after living there, it will always be my favorite city, and you’ve captured it beautifully.

  53. Gennie Hammes

What a wonderful travel log. Your wit and commentary add a smile to my day!

  59. Love, love, love the window boxes! Hope you paint the market stall, too. What a delightful trip this has been. 😀

  60. So what is the story with that Eddie? Did the American Embassy have to get involved? Was that the papparazzi following that little black tail out of the country?
Enjoy your last days rolling in the gelato. Save the veggies until you get home.
    Love
    Trish

  61. Dana

    Yea! More watercolors please!

  62. Dana

What a wonderful trip! I love sharing Italy through your csmera & comments, not to mention those sketches! The photo of the vegetable stand is out-stand-ing!!!

  63. Suzanne

Thanks for taking us to Italy with you. I have enjoyed all your entertaining comments and fantastic photos.

  64. Gail

It sounds like you’ve got things under control there. With Eddie headed back home and ideas of a healthy eating program (seriously???) in mind, you can just relax and enjoy the time you have left there! But I do know Eddie is right about one thing….”if no one sees you eating it, it doesn’t count”. So just have your gelato, cheesecake, mousse, or whatever packed in a To-Go container and tell them it’s for a friend! Then in the privacy of your room by candlelight….savor every bite! Ciao Bella

  65. Anonymous

LOVE your post on Italy. I spent time in Florance myself and yessss…its beautiful. Will go back someday. My BIGGEST regret is that I did not ‘journal’ my travels. I do have the photos though….Rose

  66. Loving your postcards! That chocolate looks so yummy. I just had to watch “Under the Tuscan Sun” last night and thought about you being right there. What an enchanting place. I have so enjoyed your trip to Italy!

Oh and that would be Carrie Waller in case you weren’t sure:)

  74. Carrie

You aren’t kidding about those European ladies and their heels. When we were living in Germany and I would see locals climbing the rocky hills around the German castles in their 6 inch heels. I do think the Olympics should consider adding high heeled sports to their competitions.

Now I just know their must be some kind of mistake because I’m positive a cartolina should have been on it’s way to my house. In the spirit of our upcoming elections, I demand a recount:)))) So glad there are a few more chances–that link mishap was the Universe’s way of saying you must pick Carrie, Carrie, Carrie:)))

  75. Hi Dreama, thanks for sharing your trip with us! The postcards are beautiful! I’m still hoping to win one! Cathy hart

You’re obviously getting way too much exercise… only 5 lbs? I have put on more than that looking at the photo of that sinful mousse. 🙂 Another lovely postcard – just love geraniums! Mine are flowering too, so I shall take some wine and go sit amongst them, and dream I am in Italy! Thanks for sharing your great pics.

  89. this has been too fun. i wonder if you have a favorite memory from this year’s france/italy adventure? echoing the “safe travels” wishes…

  90. In your photos, it looks so clean there in the streets. I think of all the cans, cups and bottles, etc. lying along our roads. Is that the norm? How beautiful it seems!

  91. Lyn

Next time, let’s stay for a month! Too much to see and do in 10 days!

Lol! The American lingo does make me chuckle sometimes. ‘Fanny-Pack’ for one thing! What is that?? Over here it would sound quite rude, lol! It’s would mean something very different indeed! And what is Gelato by the way?
Anyway – as usual, wonderful photo’s and a gorgeous sketch too :0)

  111. I’m not sure about Eddie’s calorie counting method, I do like it though. I had an auntie who claimed that whipped cream really wasn’t fattening because it was mostly air. Like minds. Thank you for taking the time to share your beautiful art and Italy with everyone !

  112. Marcia

You are such a tease but so nice to give away a surprise! Oh, and Eddie is absolutely right, calories not seen consumed definitely do not count…what calories?

Wicked jealous that you are in Italy and I am not–but leaving this afternoon for my favorite domestic location, Chincoteague Island, VA. Come visit sometime. I am sure you would find it charming–I will boil up a mess of blue crabs to go with Coronas on my front porch for us. Keep having fun!

  128. myra

Don’t worry about those five pounds. You’re just doing it wrong – eat dessert first, then the veggies. Then the calories don’t count. 🙂
