Before the Creative Process

THE GREAT GRATITUDE ADVENTURE/ DAY TWENTY-NINE/ TO DO LIST

1. Go Within
Trust is within ourselves; it takes no rise from outward things, whate’er you may believe.
there is an inmost centre in us all,
Where truth abides in fulness; and around,
Wall upon wall, the gross flesh hems it in,
This perfect, clear perception—which is truth.
A baffling and perverting carnal mesh
Binds it, and makes all error;
and , to KNOW,
Rather consists in opening out a way
Whence the imprisoned splendor may escape,
Than in effecting entry for a light
Supposed to be without.
~Robert Browning
2. Be Still and Know
…it is silence that will lead you into profound stillness, and it is stillness that attunes you to the still, small voice of intuitive guidance.
~Michael Beckwith
There is a guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening we shall hear the right word.
~Emerson
All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.
~Eckhart Tolle
3. Take Your Foot Off the Brake
The only decision you have to make is the decision to begin.  The decisions “what to do” and “which way to go” should not be made; they should be discovered.
~Eric Butterworth
..take the brakes off, throw away the rearview mirror that only sees the past, and live the life you were destined for.
~Michael Beckwith
4. Give Thanks
“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”
~Thornton Wilder
5. Live With JOY
Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within
~Eckhart Tolle
6. Stay Present
Now is all there is, and the future is just another present moment to live when it arrives.
~Wayne Dyer
7. Let Love Guide You
To love is to recognize yourself in another.
~Eckhart Tolle
8. Exercise Trust
You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.  So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.  You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.  This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
~Steve Jobs
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.

  23. I am grateful that I am able to be present in the moment. These past 14 and a half years have taught me that. Though it was really a specific moment in time that clarified it for me. Then just practice practice practice. But the being grateful for each living breathing moment no matter how painful, no matter how wonderful, no matter how boring, no matter how just there it is. That is what I am grateful for.

  24. I am grateful for a God who knows me and loves me!

  57. Today I am grateful for having the freedom of self expression. There are many who do not have that freedom around the world to say what we want, write want we want and paint what we want.

  58. I’m thankful that I don’t fall into the trap of “I don’t have enough time” to paint or be creative. I hear that a lot from artists or in general and wonder how much time that person spends watching tv and on the internet. 🙂 i’m grateful I carve out time to do the things that really matter to me.

  59. I am grateful for the opportunity we have present always…that is to pray to God.

  60. Grateful for friends! The seeds in the garden of life!

  61. I am grateful that I recently became very aware that most artists, if not all, sense a connection with God when they perform their craft. This is probably the most exciting realization possible.

  62. I’m grateful to be learning to play the piano my mother and aunt learned on. I am grateful to my Grandmother “Nana” (who was from Ft. Thomas, KY) who gave me the piano. I am also grateful to have a wonderful piano teacher and friend in Arleen!

Today I’m most thankful for my new phone& my husband who bought it for me! I have had several phones in the past but I couldn’t figure them out. This phone is “user friendly” and put my in touch with you first thru a simple “friend request from me”. With this artist friendly phone with “icons” I found myself” blogging” for the first time. I have only known Dreama since. November. 21st or so. I love waking up to find what wonderful words of wisdom and beautiful colorful painting to inspire me for the day. You are a precious gift from above to many people. To quote Robert Schuller”God loves you and so do I.” Thank you Nancy Piros

  69. Grateful for the late round of golf yesterday to see the sun set over the San Jacinto mountains and watch the sky turn every shade of purple, lavender and pink you would ever want to paint. The mountains are breathtakingly beautiful.
Maybe that is why Dr. Seuss said,”You’re off to great places, today is the day; your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!

    Dreama,

I am grateful for such a BEAUTIFUL morning, today’s post and for you. You are a bright spot for so many people with your positive attitude and words of encouragement. It takes so much time just to put together a blog but you have taken yours a step further. You have filled it with love, commitment and effort and you have done it well. And now you have topped yourself by actively getting others to join in and become aware of the things in their lives for which they are grateful but that we usually just take for granted. And todays quotes were just what I needed. They reminded me to let go and let God.

I would in turn like to leave you with a quote from one of the smartest and most influential women in my life, my grandmother. One of the many things she used to tell me was, “Don’t ever feel sorry for yourself because no matter how bad you have it there is always someone that is worse off than you and you don’t have to look very far to find them.” ~ Mary Boor And after all these years she still helps me to keep my life in perspective.

So thank you for the morning inspiration. What a way to start the day! :o) (Sorry this is such a long post but…….you inspired me! :o)

    Christine

  86. Wow – #3 is my favorite today! Thanks for these reminders. 98. Deb LaRocque

I think I am going to repeat myself but today I am grateful for the wonderful people at my church that put on funeral lunches. This is the fifth one this month. A team is on for a month at a time. They set up the room, prepare some of the food (some is donated by parishoners)and clean up. They are there a good portion of the day. Today when I dropped food off they were hard at work getting things going. My family has benefitted from this service twice and I know from personal experience it is appreciated. So to all who provide this service “THANK YOU!!!!”

  99. This morning I have decided to be grateful for the paper delivery car with the noisy muffler that wakes me up at 5:30a.m. because it means an early start to a day of painting and reading inspirational quotes on this blog! Thank you!

  134. I’m feeling incredibly grateful for all the comedians in this world who practice medicine without a Phd ~ for laughter truely is the best medicine ~ Thank you, Dreama, for bringing so much healing energy into my life & our world with your great sense of humor (and of course Eddie gets due credit for supplying such great material to work with). Live, Love, & Laugh (in abundance).

  135. Maybe this is a “to be” list instead of a “to do” list. Coming from being as you suggest, the “doing” would just be natural expressions of those ways of being. Focusing on who you want to be and what you want to create can be more empowering than how we typically approach our list of tasks to do. Seeing them as actions required in the bigger context of what we are out to fulfill on, makes them a lot less daunting. Goes back to your earlier post on the bigger picture. Shift the context from “to do’s” are things to get off our plate to these are actions to take to enable us to fulfill on the life we want.
I am grateful for having freedom to create new possibilities in life.

  136. I am grateful for your daily inspirations, Dreama. You have opened our eyes to staying in the present moment. Thank you for all the time you have devoted to this wonderful project. Hugs back to you!!!

Today more than many others, I am grateful that my coworker will be back from vacation tomorrow. It has been a very long 2 weeks with each of my teammates being out a week. Starting tomorrow I will begin working on MY clients requests again! (For this I’m sure THEY will be grateful) thank you, Monica Avila

  162. Today I am grateful for the inspirations in the “to do list”….gems of wisdom, particularly this quote from Wayne Dyer, “the future is just another present moment to live when it arrives”. This is definitely one to live by always.

  163. Today I am grateful for…
my art buds who travel on adventures with me sharing new sights and new cultures. They make the experiences so much fun. Thanks art pals!

  164. Grateful to an amazing To Do List…love this! Up early to head to art school and grateful for all the ones who make that possible, mainly husband Dave. Also grateful for mentor, Jim, who says he is just guiding me while I push myself but it sure has made a difference in how far I have come. Grateful he is so giving in sharing all the Quang Ho lessons from his own workshop with Quang…love learning to paint just in light and shadow. Connecting all the shadows together to get pattern is amazing and the edges are so interesting. Love learning and in the end most grateful to be able to do that.

  165. I’m grateful to be sitting here waiting for the sun to rise over the Atlantic knowing my loved ones are still asleep and safe.

    Extraordinary selection of quotations today!
Thank you, Dreama – and for your inspirational thoughts/words as well. November weather where I live is usually pretty dreary, but this year,
thanks to you, Dreama, I don’t want the month to be over! Cheers!

  169. This has been such an inspirational journey. Some of these things are sticking with me,helping me play my best game on all levels. Thank you Dreama for introducing me to Seth Godin, his quote-
“The way to get unstuck is to start down the wrong path, right now.”- really speaks to me. It applies to my painting and procrastinating about my painting as much as anything. Quang Ho says-“the only mistake you can make in a painting is not to make a decision at all.” All such great advice that I would never know without the Internet. Grateful!

Today I’m grateful for all the people who work hard to bring me my morning coffee. Growers, pickers, processors, tasters, shippers, wholesalers, retailers, Dairy Farmers, Dairy workers, government control agents, people who design the coffee machines and kettles and bring the electricity to my home etc., and lastly myself … Barista extraordinaire. Ahhhhh there’s nothing like that first cup of coffee for the day. Sea Dean

  173. Today I’m grateful for the portrait painting class that I will attend this morning. 3 hours of painting from a live model, with a wonderfully enthusiastic tutor and a very talented group of artists. It’s always inspiring and a great boost to my love of painting faces!

  174. it"s me

I am great for quiet moments of solitude.

  175. great post today! I’ve been thinking the last few days how grateful I am for all the artists who share their knowledge and insights and light the way for artists traveling the same road.

  176. Today I am grateful for my sweet little dog Maggie who brightens every day with her sweet disposition. She makes strangers smile on the street. She loves people, grass, tree trunks, leaves, other dogs, postmen, strangers who smile at her, chasing her ball, her chew bones, sweet bell pepper treats, romaine lettuce leaves and I guess she loves just about everything. And I am grateful that she came into my life.
